Biden reverses ban on TikTok and Wechat

President Joe Biden signed a new executive order on June 9 local time, revoking the ban on TikTok and Wechat during former President Trump's presidency and requiring the Commerce Department to conduct a broader security review of apps controlled by foreign "adversaries," according to the White House website.

The new executive order aims to clarify the standards for what the U.S. considers to be sensitive data, the media said. For its part, the White House released a briefing that said the data includes personally identifiable and genetic information that could be leaked directly to people associated with foreign adversaries, including China, posing a risk to U.S. data privacy and national security.
