<Editor's Pick> Musk: Tesla doesn't need a PR team

Oct 14, 2020

There are three men in the world who don't need PR, President Trump, who suffers from Covid-19 and still insists on ruling the country, Luo Yonghao, founder of Smartisan Technology, and Elon Musk, Silicon Valley's Iron Man. But only Musk has the courage to admit to cutting PR and letting go.

On the evening of October 6, Tesla disbanded its core PR team at its U.S. headquarters, while retaining only a few PR managers in Europe and Asia, according to electrek. A source revealed that the move to disband the core PR team has been confirmed by Tesla's top brass and could be considered a final decision.

Tesla will be the first "outlier" among global automakers to not communicate and deal with the media. The news comes as Tesla's move has sent shockwaves through the U.S. and overseas markets.

But all along, Tesla has been a "maverick" with unusual and atypical corporate strategies and ways of doing things. Add to that, the deviant personality of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Tesla's PR strategy and performance over the last six months, and it's no surprise that Tesla is now taking this bold step.
